Special Braces Guide: finding the ideal size

Auteur : Charlotte Bonnardot / 27 juin 2025

Small, tall, corpulent, slim… Everyone has a unique body and morphology. So it can sometimes be difficult to know what size braces to choose. But don’t worry, Léon is here to guide you towards THE ideal size that will fit your figure perfectly. Your braces will fit you perfectly! You’ll see, it’s easier than it looks to find the right size braces.

At Les Bretelles de Léon, you’ll find braces with thin, wide, shorter or longer bands. All our braces have a sliding adjustment system to adjust the length of the straps to your bust.

Go to the braces special guide… let’s go!

Finding the right braces size for Y-shaped models with leather backs and clips

ur ‘Y’ models are undoubtedly among our favourites. You’ll find them in thin and wide bands, with standard lengths (120 cm), extra long (140 cm) or extra short (100 cm). To choose between these different lengths, it’s important to measure your bust. Here’s how to measure yourself:

  1. Use a sewing tape to measure yourself.
  2. Place the start of the tape at the bottom of your bust, at waist level.
  3. Pass the tape over your shoulder.
  4. Go back down your back to the middle of your bust, at waist level.

This will give you the measurements you need to choose the braces length that suits you best.

Finding the right braces for ‘X’ models with metal backs and clips

If you’re looking for an optimum fit and extra support, opt for our braces with a metal back. This sliding system at the back gives you two clips (“X” model), unlike our leather-back models which only have one clip at the back (“Y” model).

To measure, you’ll need a tape measure. Place the start of the tape at the bottom of your torso, at waist level, at the front. Then pass it over your shoulder and continue until you reach your lower back. The ribbon should follow a diagonal line from your bust to the height of your waistband at the back. Make sure the ribbon reaches between the middle and the left or right side of your lower back.

Special guide to braces with tabs

Tabs are another way of attaching braces to your trousers. They have the advantage of adding a more distinguished and elegant touch to your braces. They are slightly longer, as the tabs add a few extra centimetres. However, the method for measuring your bust for this style remains the same as for classic Y braces. Take a tape measure, start at the bottom of your bust at waist level, pass it over your shoulder, and work your way down the back to the middle of your bust at waist level.

A little tip: if you want to wear braces with tabs, don’t forget to sew buttons onto your trousers, or buy heavy-duty clip buttons that don’t require sewing and can be removed at will.

I hope you find this special braces guide useful!
