Hunting Braces: How to Choose the Right braces

Hunting Is a True Art
Have you heard of hunting braces? Yes, they’re a real thing—and gearing up properly also means dressing in the right clothes! Choosing the right colours for jackets and other hunting garments is essential to blend into the surroundings and get closer to game without being spotted.
Whether you’re stalking or beating, camouflage patterns and high-visibility orange are ideal choices. It’s worth noting that fluorescent orange is not visible to most large game animals. That makes it perfect for driven hunts, where several hunters need to see each other clearly for safety. A good hunting outfit serves several purposes: comfort, protection, visibility to fellow hunters, and stealth from animals. Choose your gear wisely—it’s as much about safety as it is about success.
And What About Hunting Braces?
While it’s true that large game animals can’t detect fluorescent orange, their eyes are particularly sensitive to metallic reflections. In fact, a glint from a jacket or a belt can be seen from afar by an animal and cause it to flee before you’ve even spotted it. That’s why Léon is thinking of you, hunters—no one had really considered it, but matte brace clips can (in their own small way) make all the difference!
Hunting trousers are generally thick and heavy, thorn-proof and built to last. And a belt isn’t always the best accessory to keep your trousers in place. That’s why some turn to hunting braces. Léon’s hunting braces include two wide models with matte metal clips: the Kaki Dandy (shown above) and the Sapin Alpin (shown below)—two shades of green to match your outfit without the risk of unwanted glare!
Besides fluorescent orange for a jacket, colours like brown, green, beige, or other natural tones are much better suited to blending into outdoor environments. In short, hunting braces are an excellent alternative to a belt.
Quelles bretelles choisir ?
Several types of braces are available, such as leather braces, among others. However, for optimal comfort, we recommend elastic hunting braces, which adapt perfectly to your movements.
Léon’s hunting braces are 120 cm long and 35 mm wide. The wide models “Sapin Alpin Green” and “Kaki Dandy” are made of elastic bands (82% polyester and 18% elastodiene), joined by a leather patch (100% split cowhide leather) stamped with Les Bretelles de Léon.
Hunting Braces: Which Materials to Choose?
Hunting clothing is often made from thick, durable materials, as it needs to withstand harsh outdoor and early morning conditions. Fleece, Gore-Tex, rubber, leather, wool, neoprene, and the ever-reliable cotton are among the best materials to choose for hunting gear.
The Complete Outfit:
Here’s an example of the ideal hunter’s outfit, bringing together all the right clothes and accessories!
- A polo shirt, T-shirt or shirt
- A sweatshirt, jumper or fleece
- Thick, thorn-proof trousers, gaiters or knickerbockers
- Comfortable, technical underwear (merino wool is a top choice)
- A woolly hat for the cold, a hat or cap for the sun (or a fur-lined cap for both!)
- A good pair of shoes—hiking boots or rubber boots, even leather if preferred
- A jacket or gilet suited to the weather conditions. But above all, your jacket must have lots and lots (and lots!) of pockets!
– Special hunting braces, joined by a leather patch! Make sure the metal clips have a matte finish—that way, you won’t give yourself away with unwanted reflections!
