Eco-friendly braces
Auteur : Charlotte Bonnardot / 27 juin 2025
In 2023, Léon added eco-responsible braces to its collection, with braces made from strips of recycled textile and plant-based ‘leather’ backs. We’ve designed these braces to meet the needs of a textile industry that has to reinvent itself. Eco-friendly braces

Tapes made from recycled textiles
The strips are made from recycled denim: Rdenim.
Rdenim comes from Belgium and is part of the Hack your Jeans programme! Rdenim tapes are 100% cellulose, with 25% recycled denim, 25% Tencel and 50% viscose.
- The RDenim part meets the Global Recycled Standard (GRS)
- Tencell is a fibre derived from eucalyptus trees grown in PEFC-certified forests.
- The viscose also comes from certified forests and is 100% biodegradable.
Vegetable leather back
Some backs are made from vegetable “leather” derived from apples and contain no PVC. In fact, the coating is made from apple waste and one metre of leather contains the waste from 6 apples. These “leather” backs are therefore made from products with a high natural waste content, so differences in colour and tone, as well as small surface defects, are proof that the product is natural.

We are striving to use more sustainable materials. It takes time, but it’s in line with our values.
Our aim is also to ensure that there is no impact on the price of the braces. So the eco-responsible braces are the same price as the other models!
